Use of ICT & Netbooks

We expect our students to use the School’s ICT equipment in a responsible way, and we ask all students to agree to the Code of Conduct when they join the School.

Code of Conduct - ICT Facilities
I (the student) AGREE TO:

Use only my own network account (you are not permitted to use another person’s network username or password).
Look after my password (I am responsible for keeping my password secret and changing it immediately if I suspect someone else might know it.)
Use my network account to store only work associated with school (Offensive, insulting or harassing material is illegal and you will be held responsible if it is found stored or displayed on a computer accessed by your username.)
Look after all the computer equipment that I use. (I will be held responsible for any breakages resulting from misuse, including accidental damage through inappropriate conduct such as eating or drinking near a PC.)
Follow copyright laws (assume that all software, including shareware, is copyright protected and should not be shared without permission.)
Protect the computer network against viruses (do my best to ensure that my work from home and any other data is virus-free.)
Use the Internet for educational purposes only (this does not include chat rooms, online computer games, chain mail, violent, distasteful or inappropriate material etc.)
Leave PC and workstation settings as they are (PCs have been configured as they are with good reason and must be left this way).
Respect people’s privacy (this includes personal details and images)

Code of Conduct - School Email

I (the student) AGREE NOT TO:

Access the Hugh Christie Mail Server during lessons without permission of the Teacher.
Send email messages which result in complaints from the recipient or from the recipient's email provider, or which result in blacklisting of the sender's email address or mail server.
Send email messages which are excessive and/or intended to harass or annoy others.
Send, or attempt to send, Spam of any kind from the Hugh Christie Mail Server.
Send, or attempt to send, Spam of any kind from third-party networks using a return email address that is hosted on the Hugh Christie Mail Server, or referencing an email address hosted on the Hugh Christie Mail Server.
Executable code must not be attached to e-mails (or imported in any other way) without the express permission of the systems manager.
Intellectual property must be observed, students must not keep, access or transmit confidential data about other students.

Content:

The student is responsible for all content that is transmitted, received and stored in their account on the Hugh Christie Mail Server. Consequences of Unacceptable Use
Hugh Christie reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account upon notice of breaking the rules of this policy. Indirect or attempted breaking of the rules shall also be considered unacceptable use. The school behaviour policy will be applied in any of the above breaches of the code of conduct.

Personal Technology Devices

Personal technology, such as mobile phones, are permitted to be brought to school provided the owner follows the following simple guidance:

All devices should be switched off and in the bottom of bags while on the school site. Urgent telephone messages from home can be passed to students by calling reception.
A student can be requested to reveal a message, or content on their mobile phone by the Safeguarding or PAL Team, to establish if bullying has occurred.
No images of films are to be taken of other students or members of staff.
Personal technology devices brought in from home cannot be charged at the school.
School staff will confiscate a device for the rest of the day if students do not follow this guidance. One-off serious incidents or repeated misuse may result in the student being refused permission to bring the device to school for a fixed period of time or permanently.

Office 365

All students have an OFFICE 365 account. It can be accessed from the school website or this link:

Students will need to use their school email address and password to access their accounts. It will be their username followed by the Tonbridge Federation email handle, for example:

All students should have their usernames in their planner. Once logged into OFFICE 365, students have access to the following;

Their school email
Their OneDrive stores all their school documents in the cloud for home or school access
Sites for each subject area where resources to support learning at home and school are uploaded by teachers.

Damage or Loss of Equipment

The student must make every effort to protect the Netbook from damage or loss.
Any damage or loss/theft on School premises must be reported immediately to the School.
In the case of suspected theft outside the School, the police must be informed and a copy of the report (crime number) given to the School for information.
Loss or damage to the Netbook may result in the loss of student data saved on the Netbook. Students are responsible for backing up their data to the Sky Drive or the School network.

Repairs & Maintenance

When the Netbook is replaced under warranty, the type of replacement is dependent upon the manufacturer.
If a device is replaced by the School, its replacement may differ from the original device.
Substitution devices will be lent to students if their Netbook requires repair.
Netbooks will be maintained and supported by the School for the length of the 3-year project.
Maintenance of the Netbook can only be performed by the School.
The Netbook battery supplied with the devices should last for a minimum of three years if the devices are used properly. If the battery needs replacement the purchase cost will be the responsibility of the student/parent and not the School.

General Standards for Netbooks

The student is responsible for:

Taking care of the Netbook in accordance with School guidelines.
Adhering to the Acceptable Use Agreement when using the device at School and home.
Backing up data. It is recommended that students use the School-based cloud technology available to save their work regularly to Sky Drive. All students will be issued their own Sky Drive access.
Keeping login details and passwords confidential. Under NO circumstances should students log in using another student’s username and password or use another student’s Netbook.
